Designing with AI: Does it actually work?
In this new digital age, Artificial Intelligence has leveled the playing field. Now anyone can create an inviting poster, event invite, fun clip, and so much more!
However, Artificial Intelligence can make mistakes. For example, did you happen to notice the extra thumb on the woman's left hand in the image above? Designing something you are happy with while using AI takes intentionality, and there are things that each designer can do when working with AI to generate a better design.
Things to Remember:
- The resolution on AI files may be lower quality than 300 DPI (reccomended resolution)

The files may look fuzzy, pixelated, and grainy especially around the edges of words.
- The aspect ratio may be different from the actual finished size you are hoping for
- AI is great at checking grammar, but not always great at spelling when generating an image with text
- The alignment of elements on the page may be off
- Text or elements may be way too close to the edge to allow for cutting.
Tips:
- Include your desired aspect ratio or finished size in your initial prompt
- Print a proof first before printing your entire project
- Have a friend or family member check the spelling and quality with you
- Prompt the AI to ensure nothing important, especially text, is too close to the edge
- Paid subscriptions for AI tend to render better results and higher resolution images
- Have AI help you write the prompt for the design you are wanting to generate. Then add that prompt in a new chat to generate your design/image.
- If you don't love the design, prompt the AI to refine it. You don't have to go with the initial design.
